Before handing waste to a private collector, ask who is taking it and how it will be handled. A low price by itself does not show that the collection arrangements are suitable.
Check the carrier
Ask for the waste-carrier registration details and check them against the Environment Agency public register. The government’s waste duty of care guidance explains the checks householders should make when using a private business.
Describe the waste accurately
Explain what is in the load, including items that may require different handling. A general household collection should not silently include chemicals, suspected asbestos or other specialist materials. Keep different materials identifiable and follow the agreed collection instructions.
Ask about paperwork
For non-hazardous business waste, ask about the waste transfer note or equivalent document and keep the required records. GOV.UK explains the business waste transfer note requirements.
Avoid assumptions
Do not assume every item can be recycled, every appliance is accepted or every collection includes specialist destruction. Ask what the quote covers and which materials require separate arrangements.
For a Platinum Clearance enquiry, send photos and the collection postcode, identify the waste types and request the registration and paperwork information relevant to your job.
